Hoka (formerly Hoka One One) was originally founded in Annecy, France, in 2009 by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard. The brand gained rapid fame in the running community for its 'maximalist' shoe design, featuring oversized outsoles that provided extra cushioning, contrasting with the minimalist running trend of the time.
In 2013, the brand was acquired by the American corporation Deckers Brands. Under this ownership, Hoka transitioned from a niche trail-running brand into a global athletic powerhouse, expanding into road running, hiking, and lifestyle categories. Today, the brand is widely recognized for its unique aesthetics and innovative foam technology.
While the brand has French roots and American ownership, its manufacturing operations are primarily outsourced to factories in Southeast Asia and East Asia, with Vietnam being a major production hub to meet global demand. The corporate headquarters are located in Goleta, California.
