Sensodyne is a world-renowned oral health brand, originally introduced in 1961 by the Block Drug Company in the United States. It was the first toothpaste specifically formulated to treat dentine hypersensitivity by using strontium chloride to block exposed tubules in the teeth. In 2000, Block Drug was acquired by the pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), which expanded the brand globally and integrated advanced scientific technologies like NovaMin.

In July 2022, GSK completed a major corporate spin-off of its consumer healthcare division, creating Haleon, a new independent multinational company. Sensodyne is now the flagship brand of Haleon. While historically manufactured in various locations including the UK, production has shifted toward specialized hubs. For the European market, including the Netherlands, manufacturing is primarily conducted at Haleon's facility in Slovakia, which became a central global hub for toothpaste production as smaller sites were closed down in the mid-2020s.
