Dragon fruit, also known as Pitaya, is the fruit of several different cactus species indigenous to the Americas. Specifically, the genus Hylocereus is native to Mexico, Central America, and South America. As a raw agricultural product, it does not have a single manufacturer or corporate brand owner unless it is packaged by a specific commercial farm.
Today, dragon fruit is cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. While originally from the Americas, the largest commercial producers are now found in Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, as well as in its native regions of Mexico and Colombia. The plant in the image is a climbing cactus characterized by its fleshy, triangular stems, which produce the vibrant, scaly fruits associated with the species.
