Cologran is a prominent private-label brand of sweeteners primarily associated with the European discount grocery chain Lidl. The product, shown here in its tablet form (1200 count), is a low-calorie sugar substitute typically used for sweetening coffee and tea. It is tailored for the European market, as evidenced by the multilingual labeling in Dutch (Zoetstof) and French (Édulcorant).
The brand Cologran was established as an in-house label by Lidl to provide cost-effective alternatives to major tabletop sweetener brands like Canderel or Natrena. Because Cologran is an own-brand label, its production is outsourced to contract manufacturers within the European Union, with the majority of these facilities located in Germany to serve the international logistics chain of the parent company.
Ownership of Cologran lies with the Schwarz Group, which is the world's fourth-largest retailer by revenue. The Schwarz Group operates both Lidl and Kaufland, maintaining a massive global supply chain. This private label strategy allows the group to control product quality and pricing directly, ensuring the brand remains a staple in discount retail across Europe.
