Founded in 1993 by brothers Markus and Daniel Freitag, the brand began in Zurich with the creation of a messenger bag made from a used truck tarp, a bicycle inner tube, and a car seat belt. This innovative approach to circular design and upcycling transformed industrial waste into high-end fashion, making each product a unique individual piece.

The production process is deeply rooted in Europe to maintain a low carbon footprint. While the initial sourcing, disassembly, and washing of tarps occur at the company’s headquarters in Zurich, the labor-intensive sewing process is outsourced to long-standing partners in Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Bulgaria. The finished goods then return to Switzerland for final quality control and distribution. FREITAG remains an independent company, owned by the founding brothers, continuing its commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles.
