Sharp AQUOS Smartphone

Sharp is one of Japan's most historic electronics brands, originally founded in Tokyo in 1912. The brand became a pioneer in liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, which significantly influenced their mobile phone development. For decades, Sharp was a leading innovator in the Japanese domestic mobile market, introducing several 'world first' features in camera phones and high-resolution displays through its AQUOS series.

In 2016, the brand underwent a major structural change when Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.) acquired a majority stake in the company. Today, while Sharp retains its design headquarters and technological research labs in Japan, the mass production of its mobile devices is primarily integrated into Foxconn's global manufacturing network, largely based in China and Taiwan. This partnership has allowed the brand to maintain its high-end display expertise while scaling production for broader distribution.
