Wasa is a heritage brand that has become synonymous with crispbread globally. Founded in 1919 in Skellefteå, Sweden, by Karl Edvard Lundström, the company was originally named Wasabröd. The name was chosen to honor the Swedish King Gustav Vasa. The brand's products are known for their high fiber content and simple, wholesome ingredients, such as whole grain rye and sesame seeds.
Over the decades, Wasa expanded its reach beyond Scandinavia to become the world's largest producer of crispbread. In 1999, the brand was acquired by the Italian food giant Barilla Group. Today, while the brand remains deeply rooted in its Swedish origins and maintains significant production facilities in Filipstad, Sweden, much of the international supply is also manufactured in Celle, Germany. The Barilla Group oversees the brand's global distribution, ensuring that Wasa continues to be a staple in healthy diets across Europe and North America.
