Philips Sonicare is a premium oral care brand that originated in the United States. The technology was pioneered by GEM Tech in Seattle, Washington, leading to the launch of the first Sonicare toothbrush in 1992. The brand became a global leader by utilizing sonic vibration technology rather than traditional rotating brush heads.
In 2000, the Dutch multinational conglomerate Philips (Koninklijke Philips N.V.) acquired Optiva Corporation (the company then producing Sonicare), integrating the technology into its Personal Health division. Today, while the brand is headquartered in the Netherlands under Philips, the manufacturing of the Sonicare 9000 series and its components primarily takes place in China and other specialized facilities worldwide.
Philips remains the ultimate owner of the brand, positioning the DiamondClean 9000 as a flagship smart-enabled device. The company continues to drive innovation in the dental hygiene sector, focusing on connected health and advanced pressure-sensor technology.
