The Olympus X-42 is a compact digital camera originally launched by Olympus Corporation, a Japanese company with a long history in optics and photography dating back to 1919. This specific model was designed as a budget-friendly point-and-shoot camera for the consumer market.
In early 2021, Olympus Corporation completed the transfer of its imaging business to OM Digital Solutions Corporation, a company established by Japan Industrial Partners Inc. This means that while the 'Olympus' brand name is still seen on legacy products and some newer releases under license, the camera business is no longer managed by the original parent company. Production for these mass-market compact cameras was primarily centered in China to maintain competitive pricing.
