Matchbox is a legendary brand of die-cast toy vehicles. Originally created by Lesney Products in 1953 in the United Kingdom, it revolutionized the toy industry by offering miniature cars that could fit inside a matchbox. Over the decades, the brand became a global household name, competing directly with other major die-cast brands.
In 1997, Matchbox was acquired by Mattel, the American toy giant also known for Hot Wheels, Barbie, and Fisher-Price. Today, Matchbox is managed as part of Mattel's extensive portfolio of vehicle brands. While the brand originated in Britain, production has transitioned globally over the years, with most modern die-cast units being manufactured in facilities in Thailand or Malaysia to serve international markets like Mexico and the United States.
The 'Moving Parts' series is a premium line designed to offer more detail and interactive features compared to standard mainline cars, such as opening doors or hoods, appealing to both children and adult collectors.
