Beauvais is one of Denmark's most iconic food brands, with its history dating back to 1850. It was founded by Jean Baptiste Desiré Beauvais, a French immigrant who pioneered canning and food preservation in Copenhagen. While the founder's heritage is French, the brand developed as a quintessentially Danish household name, famously supplying canned goods to polar expeditions and the Royal Danish Navy.

In the 1930s, Beauvais introduced its signature tomato ketchup, which remains a staple in Danish households. Today, the brand's ketchup is primarily manufactured in Skælskør, Denmark, maintaining its reputation for local production. The brand emphasizes the use of sun-ripened tomatoes and consistent recipes that have been passed down for generations.

Ownership of the brand has changed hands over the decades. It was acquired by the Scandinavian industrial giant Orkla in 1995. Currently, it is managed under the subsidiary Orkla Danmark, part of the Norwegian-based Orkla ASA group, which is a leading supplier of branded consumer goods in the Nordics.
