The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is an international non-profit organization that sets standards for sustainable fishing. The blue MSC label is found on seafood products globally, indicating that the fish was caught in reaching a strict environmental standard. Unlike a physical food product made in a single factory, MSC-certified products are harvested and processed in dozens of countries by thousands of different fisheries and supply chain businesses.
Founded as a joint venture between the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Unilever, the MSC became fully independent in 1999. It does not catch or sell fish itself but operates a third-party certification program. When you see the blue label, it signifies that the seafood is traceable back to a sustainable source, helping to prevent overfishing and protect marine ecosystems.
