Rizla is one of the world's most iconic brands of rolling papers, with a history dating back to 16th-century France. The brand name is derived from 'Riz', the French word for rice (as the papers were originally made from rice), and 'La+' (pronounced Lacroix), after the Lacroix family who founded the company. The 'Natura' variant shown in the image highlights a shift towards sustainable materials, being made from responsibly sourced hemp paper rather than traditional wood pulp or rice.
While the brand has deep French roots, its manufacturing and ownership have become international. As indicated on the packaging, Rizla has a significant operational presence in Wilrijk, Belgium. Today, the brand is owned by Imperial Brands, a British multinational tobacco company that acquired the brand as part of its expansion into the 'roll-your-own' market. The product remains a market leader globally, known for its distinct branding and variety of paper weights and materials.
