Extra is a globally recognized brand of sugar-free chewing gum that was first launched in the United States in 1984 by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company. It holds the distinction of being Wrigley's first sugar-free product, originally using saccharin before transitioning to aspartame. The Polar Ice flavor, known for its intense cooling sensation, is one of the brand's most popular variants within its 'Long Lasting Flavor' product line.
While the brand has its roots in Chicago, Illinois, manufacturing now takes place across a vast global network to serve different international markets. Major production facilities are located in the United States, as well as several other countries across Europe and Asia. In 2008, the parent company Wrigley was acquired by Mars, Incorporated, a massive American multinational corporation. Today, Extra remains a flagship brand under the Mars Wrigley segment, maintaining its position as one of the world's leading chewing gum brands through continuous innovation in flavor and packaging.
