Because Iceland maintains strict regulations regarding dairy imports and a self-sufficient dairy industry, Kókómjólk is produced entirely within Iceland using 100% Icelandic milk. The brand has expanded over the years to include sugar-reduced and high-protein versions to meet modern consumer preferences.

Ownership of Kókómjólk remains with Mjólkursamsalan (MS), which is a cooperative owned by over 600 dairy farmers across Iceland. This structure ensures that the brand remains under domestic control, with profits reinvested into the local agricultural community.
