LocknLock was founded in 1978 in Seoul, South Korea, by Kim Joon-il as Han-kook Distribution Co. The brand achieved global fame following the 1998 introduction of its revolutionary four-side locking mechanism containers, which provided an airtight and watertight seal that surpassed traditional snap-on lids. This innovation transformed the brand into a household name, synonymous with fresh food preservation.
While originating in South Korea, LocknLock expanded its production capabilities significantly to meet global demand. Today, the majority of its manufacturing takes place in specialized facilities in Vietnam and China, though some high-end lines still originate from South Korean plants. These facilities produce a wide range of kitchenware, including BPA-free plastic containers, heat-resistant glass, and thermal vacuum flasks.
In 2017, the founder sold a controlling stake in the company to Affinity Equity Partners, an Asia-based private equity firm. Under this new ownership, the brand has transitioned from a traditional kitchenware manufacturer into a global lifestyle brand. Headquartered in Seoul, the company continues to focus on environmental sustainability and design innovation for the modern home market.
