Douwe Egberts is one of the most iconic Dutch coffee brands, with roots dating back to 1753 in Joure, Netherlands, where Egbert Douwes founded a small grocery shop. Over the centuries, the company underwent several ownership changes. After being part of Sara Lee Corporation for many years, it was spun off as D.E Master Blenders 1753. Today, Douwe Egberts is a key brand under JDE Peet's, which was formed following the merger between D.E Master Blenders 1753 and the coffee division of Mondelez International, and later merged with Peet's Coffee. JDE Peet's is majority-owned by JAB Holding Company. Manufacturing primarily takes place in the Netherlands (notably in Utrecht), though global distribution involves various regional production sites.
