The brand Estrella was founded in 1946 in Alingsås, Sweden, inspired by the American potato chip culture that Folke Andersson encountered during his travels. Since its inception, Estrella has become a staple of the Swedish snack market, famous for introducing both potato chips and flavored snacks to Scandinavia.

Today, the brand's production remains deeply rooted in Sweden, with its main factory located in Angered, just outside Gothenburg. Ownership has changed hands several times over the decades; it was once part of the Kraft Foods portfolio before being acquired by Intersnack Group in 2014.
