Blue Band is a historically significant brand in the dairy and plant-based fats sector, best known for its margarines and liquid cooking fats. Originally launched in the Netherlands in 1923 by Van den Bergh, the brand became a staple of the Unilever portfolio for nearly a century. It was specifically developed to provide a nutritious, plant-based alternative to butter, enriched with essential vitamins to support growth and health.
In 2018, as part of a major corporate divestment, Unilever sold its entire spreads division to the private equity firm KKR. This led to the formation of Upfield, which now manages Blue Band along with other iconic brands like Flora and Becel. Today, Blue Band products are manufactured in various facilities globally, primarily across Europe and Africa, focusing on a shift toward 100% plant-based ingredients to meet modern dietary trends.
