TRESemmé is a salon-quality hair care brand that was originally founded in 1947 by Edna L. Emme at the Godefroy Manufacturing Company in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Originally marketed specifically to professional salons, the brand's name is a phonetic wordplay on the French for 'well-loved' (très-aimé).

In 1968, the brand was acquired by Alberto-Culver, which expanded its distribution to retail markets. In 2010, the consumer goods giant Unilever acquired Alberto-Culver, bringing TRESemmé under its extensive global portfolio. Today, TRESemmé is produced in various manufacturing facilities around the world, including locations in the United States, United Kingdom, and various regional hubs to supply international markets.
