OTA Solgryn is one of Denmark's most iconic breakfast brands, recognized for its distinctive red packaging with a bright yellow sun. Founded in 1898, the brand pioneered the production of rolled oats in the Danish market, becoming a staple of the national diet. The name 'Solgryn' (Sun Grains) reflects the energy and health-conscious image the brand has cultivated for over a century, specifically highlighting its 'sunde, kerneristede havregryn' (healthy, core-roasted oats).
While the brand was originally Danish, it was acquired by the American multinational PepsiCo in the late 20th century. However, in a significant shift for the brand’s heritage, the Danish food group Crispy Food acquired OTA Solgryn from PepsiCo in 2019. This moved the brand back into Danish ownership, with production continuing to focus on high-quality Nordic agricultural practices. Today, OTA Solgryn remains a dominant player in the Scandinavian cereal market, emphasizing its heritage of roasting oats to achieve a unique flavor profile that distinguishes it from standard raw oatmeal products.
