La Chouffe is a globally recognized Belgian blond beer known for its distinct citrus and spicy notes. The brand was founded in the late 1970s by brothers-in-law Pierre Gobron and Christian Bauweraerts in the village of Achouffe, located in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes. The brewery, Brasserie d'Achouffe, began production in 1982 and quickly became famous for its gnome mascot and high-quality craft ales.
While the brand started as a small local hobby project, its international success led to its acquisition in 2006. Since then, the brand has been under the ownership of Duvel Moortgat, one of Belgium's most prominent family-owned brewing groups. Despite its global reach and corporate ownership, the beer continues to be brewed primarily at its original location in Achouffe, maintaining its traditional Belgian brewing heritage.
Today, the Chouffe family of beers includes several varieties, such as Mc Chouffe, Chouffe Houblon, and Cherry Chouffe. The brand remains a staple of the Belgian specialty beer market, benefiting from the extensive distribution network of the Duvel Moortgat group while retaining its quirky, artisanal identity.
