Enel is a leading global integrated electricity and gas operator founded in Italy. Originally established as a public body in 1962 (Ente Nazionale per l'energia elettrica), it later transitioned into a joint-stock company in 1992. The company paved the way for the liberalization of the Italian electricity market in 1999 and has since grown into a multinational entity with a massive presence in Europe and Latin America.

The brand is headquartered in Rome, Italy, and remains partially owned by the Italian government through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which is its largest shareholder.
