Häagen-Dazs is a premium ice cream brand established in the Bronx, New York, in 1960. Founded by Reuben and Rose Mattus, the name was intentionally designed to sound Scandinavian to suggest high-quality European craftsmanship. The brand is known for using high-quality ingredients with no artificial stabilizers or fluff, maintaining a luxury market position.
Today, the brand operates under complex ownership. In the United States and Canada, the brand is owned by the Froneri joint venture (between Nestlé and R&R Ice Cream) under license. For the rest of the world, including Europe and Asia, the brand is owned and operated by General Mills. Most products sold in international markets are produced at the brand's primary manufacturing facility in Arras, France, though other facilities exist globally to serve local markets.
