Marabou is one of Sweden's most iconic chocolate brands, founded in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst. The brand quickly became a household name in Sweden, known for its high-quality milk chocolate and distinctive yellow packaging. The 'Premium' line focuses on dark chocolate with high cocoa content and various flavor infusions, such as the 70% mint variety seen here.

While Marabou's core milk chocolate range is famously produced in the Upplands Väsby factory outside Stockholm, the Premium thin bar range is typically manufactured in other European facilities within the parent company's network, most notably in Poland. This allows for specialized production techniques required for high-cocoa dark chocolate bars that differ from the standard Swedish milk chocolate process.

Today, Marabou is owned by the American multinational snack food conglomerate Mondelez International. Mondelez acquired the brand through its purchase of Kraft Foods, which had previously acquired the brand from Freia-Marabou in 1993. Despite its foreign ownership, Marabou maintains a Royal Warrant from the King of Sweden and remains a dominant force in the Nordic confectionery market.
