Fontaneda is a legendary Spanish brand with a history dating back to 1881 in Aguilar de Campoo. Known for its deep roots in Spanish breakfast and snacking culture, it rose to prominence through its iconic 'María' biscuits. The brand represents a significant piece of Spain's industrial heritage in the food sector.
Over the decades, the ownership of Fontaneda has transitioned through several major multinational corporations. In 1996, it was acquired by Nabisco, which was later integrated into United Biscuits. Following further industry consolidation, the brand became part of the Kraft Foods portfolio, which subsequently split its grocery and snack businesses. Today, Fontaneda is owned and managed by Mondelez International, the global snacking giant. While historically tied to its original factory in Spain, production now takes place across various facilities within the Mondelez network to serve international markets.
