Suunto GPS Sports Watches

Founded in 1936 by Tuomas Vohlonen, Suunto originated in Finland when its founder invented a new method for manufacturing liquid-filled compasses. For decades, the brand became synonymous with precision navigation, eventually expanding into dive computers and high-performance GPS sports watches designed for outdoor exploration and training.

While many premium electronics manufacturers outsource their entire production to Asia, Suunto is distinctive for maintaining a significant manufacturing presence in Vantaa, Finland. Most of its high-end multisport watches and dive instruments are still handcrafted or assembled at its Finnish headquarters, though some components and entry-level accessories are sourced globally.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through major international conglomerates over time. After being owned by the Finnish company Amer Sports for many years, the brand transitioned under the ownership of Liesheng, a Chinese technology company specializing in wearable electronics. This acquisition aimed to leverage Liesheng’s supply chain and technological expertise while preserving Suunto's heritage of Finnish design and precision engineering.
