Founded in 1887 in Effingham, Illinois, the brand began when Conrad Boos harvested sycamore from local forests to create a three-legged block to absorb the shock of a blacksmith's hammer. A local butcher saw the block and requested one for his shop, marking the birth of the iconic 'Boos Block.'

Today, the brand is synonymous with professional-grade kitchen equipment, used by celebrity chefs and found in commercial kitchens worldwide. The products are still primarily manufactured in Effingham, Illinois, utilizing sustainably harvested North American hardwoods such as Northern Hard Rock Maple, American Cherry, and Black Walnut.
