The ZZ plant, scientifically known as Zamioculcas zamiifolia, is a tropical perennial plant native to eastern Africa. It is widely popular as a houseplant due to its extreme durability, low-light tolerance, and attractive waxy, deep green leaves. Because it is a naturally occurring biological species and not a manufactured consumer brand, it does not have an "ultimate owner company" in the traditional sense, though several horticultural nurseries patent specific cultivars (like 'Raven').
