Schwartz is a long-standing brand in the spice and seasoning industry, tracing its history back to 1841 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Originally founded by William Henry Schwartz, the company was the first in Canada to sell pure spices, moving away from the common practice of selling spices pre-mixed with fillers like cornmeal. The brand expanded internationally and entered the British market in 1959 via a distribution partnership, eventually becoming a household name in the UK.

In 1984, the brand was acquired by McCormick & Company, a global leader in flavor based in the United States. Today, the majority of Schwartz products sold in Europe and the UK are manufactured at McCormick's extensive facilities in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire, which serves as a technical innovation hub for the brand. Ownership remains with McCormick, which has integrated Schwartz into its massive global supply chain while maintaining the brand's heritage for quality and purity.
