Van Wijngaarden's Zaanse Mayonaise is one of the most iconic food products in the Netherlands, recognized for its rich, traditional recipe and its distinctive packaging. The brand traces its roots back to 1929, when Jan van Wijngaarden started a small oil trading business in Zaandijk. It wasn't until 1955 that the company began producing its famous mayonnaise, which is celebrated for its high oil content (80%) and a unique blend of mustard and spices that gives it a signature tangy profile.

To this day, the product is manufactured in a modern facility located in Wormerveer, within the Zaan region from which it takes its name. The brand remains fiercely independent as a fourth-generation family-owned business. Despite market pressures to reduce ingredient costs, the Van Wijngaarden family has maintained the original 1950s recipe, cementing its status as a staple in Dutch households and an increasingly popular export product.
