Telefunken is a brand with deep historical roots, originally founded in Germany in 1903 as a joint venture between Siemens & Halske and AEG. Over the decades, Telefunken became synonymous with German engineering in the fields of radio and television technology. However, the original company was dissolved in 1967 after merging with AEG and later being broken up.
Today, the Telefunken brand is managed by Telefunken Licenses GmbH. For consumer electronics like the television remote control shown in the image, the brand is extensively licensed to third-party manufacturers. In the European market, the most significant licensee is the Turkish electronics giant Vestel. Most modern Telefunken-branded televisions and their accompanying accessories are manufactured by Vestel in Turkey, which is one of the largest TV producers globally. While the brand carries a German legacy, the physical manufacturing and corporate management for consumer goods are now largely concentrated in Turkey and other international manufacturing hubs.
