Discover where a brand or product originates
Zeekraal, known in English as Samphire or Sea Asparagus, is a salty sea vegetable that grows in salt marshes and coastal areas. As a fresh agricultural product, it is not 'manufactured' but rather harvested. While it grows wild in many coastal regions, commercial supplies are typically cultivated on specialized farms.
Due to seasonal variations, the origin of Zeekraal found in European markets shifts throughout the year. During the summer months, it is primarily sourced from local coastal regions like the Netherlands (Zeeland) and France. In the winter season, production shifts to warmer climates such as Israel, Mexico, or Portugal to ensure year-round availability. It is often sold as an unbranded or private-label product by local supermarkets and specialty fishmongers.
