UCMMR (Uniunea Compozitorilor și Muzicologilor din România)

UCMMR (Uniunea Compozitorilor și Muzicologilor din România) is a professional association and collective management organization representing composers and musicologists in Romania. Founded in 1920 under a different initial structure, it serves as the primary body ensuring that Romanian music creators are fairly compensated for the public performance, broadcast, and reproduction of their works.

Unlike an industrial product manufactured in a factory, UCMMR operates as a non-profit association of public utility. It is headquartered in Bucharest and functions strictly within the legal framework of Romanian intellectual property law. It is the Romanian equivalent of international organizations like ASCAP in the US or PRS for Music in the UK.

The organization remains an independent legal entity governed by its members—the composers and musicologists themselves. It does not have an external corporate 'ultimate owner' in the traditional business sense, as it is a member-governed union dedicated to domestic cultural protection and rights management.
