Albert Heijn Unsalted Butter, commonly known as 'AH Roomboter,' is a staple private-label product of the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands. The brand has its roots in the late 19th century when Albert Heijn Sr. took over his father's grocery store in Oostzaan in 1887. Over decades, it grew into a dominant Dutch retail brand known for offering a wide range of house-brand products.
The butter is primarily produced in the Netherlands, sourcing high-quality milk from Dutch dairy farms. As a private-label product, its manufacturing is managed through partnerships with local dairy cooperatives and processors. The brand is now part of the global retail group Ahold Delhaize, which was formed through the 2016 merger of the Dutch Ahold and Belgian Delhaize Group. This ownership ensures that while the brand maintains its deep Dutch heritage, it operates under one of the world's largest food retail groups based in Zaandam.
