Maes is a historic Belgian pilsner brand originally founded in 1883 by Egied Maes in Waarloos, Belgium. The brand is famously associated with its blue branding and its status as one of the most popular lagers in its home country. The product shown is a 330ml can with 5.2% alcohol content, which is the standard recipe for Maes Pils.
Over the decades, the brewery underwent several mergers and acquisitions, eventually becoming part of Alken-Maes. In 2008, following the acquisition of Scottish & Newcastle by Heineken and Carlsberg, Alken-Maes was acquired by the Heineken Group. Today, Maes continues to be brewed primarily in Belgium at the Alken brewery, while being managed under the global portfolio of Heineken N.V.
