Post Shredded Wheat is a historic breakfast cereal that dates back to the late 19th century. It was originally invented by Henry Perky in Denver, Colorado, in 1890. Perky was a pioneer in the development of whole-grain products, and his invention of the 'shredded wheat' process revolutionized the American breakfast table. The brand was famously associated with the Shredded Wheat Company and its iconic factory in Niagara Falls, known as the 'Palace of Light.'

In 1928, the brand was acquired by the National Biscuit Company, which later became Nabisco. For decades, it was a staple of the Nabisco cereal portfolio. However, in 1993, Kraft Foods acquired Nabisco's cereal division, bringing Shredded Wheat under the Post brand umbrella. Post has since focused on maintaining the recipe's integrity, emphasizing its 100% whole grain wheat composition and lack of added sugar or salt.

Today, the brand is owned by Post Holdings, Inc., a major American consumer packaged goods holding company. Manufacturing is primarily concentrated in North America, with significant production facilities in the United States and Canada. Post Holdings continues to manage the brand as a core part of its cereal portfolio, targeting health-conscious consumers with its clean label and high-fiber content.
