Kettle Chips, specifically the variant shown featuring Chilli with Red Chillies & Jalapeños, is a prominent premium snack brand known for its signature crunch and artisanal approach to potato chip manufacturing. The brand's origin traces back to Salem, Oregon, in the United States, where it was founded in 1978 by Cameron Healy under the name N.S. Khalsa Company. The brand quickly gained a reputation for using high-quality ingredients and the 'kettle-cooking' method, which involves frying chips in small batches to achieve a unique, hardy texture compared to mass-produced sliced chips.
While the brand originated in the United States, it has separate international trajectories. In the Australian and New Zealand markets, the Kettle brand underwent a major transformation in ownership. For many years, it was owned by Snack Brands Australia. However, in 2016, the Philippine-based multinational corporation Universal Robina Corporation (URC) acquired Snack Brands Australia. Later, in 2021, the German group Intersnack acquired URC's Australian and New Zealander snacks business, creating a powerhouse in the Oceanic snack food market.
Today, the Kettle brand in Australia is managed under the Snack Brands Australia banner, which is a subsidiary of the Intersnack Group. For the Australian retail market, most Kettle chips are manufactured locally using Australian-grown potatoes, maintaining a strong domestic supply chain and footprint.
