Verkade is an iconic Dutch brand with a heritage dating back to 1886 when Ericus Gerhardus Verkade opened his steam bread and biscuit factory in Zaandam. The brand is deeply woven into Dutch culture, known for its high-quality biscuits, chocolate, and seasonal snacks. This vintage tin reflects the brand's long-standing tradition of producing premium tea biscuits.
While the brand originated as a family-owned business in the Zaan region, its ownership has transitioned through several major corporate hands over the decades. In the late 20th century, it was part of United Biscuits. Following a period under the Blackstone Group and PAI Partners, the brand was acquired by Pladis Global in 2014. Pladis is a global snacking powerhouse and a subsidiary of the Turkish conglomerate Yıldız Holding. Today, most Verkade products are still manufactured in their historic base in Zaandam, preserving their local authenticity under international ownership.
