Belfius Bank & Insurance is a leading Belgian integrated bank-insurer. Originally established in the nineteenth century, the modern iteration of the brand was born from the restructuring of Dexia Bank Belgium in 2011 after the financial crisis. The brand name 'Belfius' was introduced in 2012, symbolizing its Belgian identity (Bel), its focus on finance (fi), and its customer-centric approach (us).

Since its acquisition during the Eurozone debt crisis, Belfius has been entirely owned by the Belgian state through the Federal Holding and Investment Company (SFPI/FPIM). It operates primarily within the Belgian market, providing retail, commercial, and public sector banking services, alongside extensive insurance products. While it is a state-owned entity, it operates as a commercial enterprise with its headquarters in Brussels, maintaining a significant physical presence through a vast branch network across Belgium.
