Dammann Frères is one of France's most prestigious tea companies, with a history tracing back to 1692 when Sieur Damame was granted the exclusive privilege to sell tea in France by King Louis XIV. The modern company was officially established in 1925 by brothers Robert and Pierre Dammann, who were pioneers in the creation of flavored teas and the invention of the Cristal sachet, a transparent tea bag that allows for better infusion.
While the raw ingredients—teas, herbs, and spices—are sourced from premium estates across the globe (such as Sri Lanka, India, and China), the blending, flavoring, and packaging processes are centralized in Dreux, France. In 2007, the Italian coffee group Illycaffè acquired a majority stake in the company, integrating it into its luxury food and beverage division.
Today, Dammann Frères remains a symbol of French artisanal expertise, combining traditional sourcing techniques with modern innovation. The brand is recognized globally for its high-quality loose-leaf teas and distinctive flavored blends, which are distributed through specialized boutiques and high-end hospitality venues.
