SL Public Transport

SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik) is the regional organization responsible for public transport in Stockholm County, Sweden. Founded in 1967 through the reorganization of previous municipal transport entities, SL oversees an extensive network including the Stockholm Metro, commuter trains, trams, buses, and ferries.

While SL acts as the umbrella brand and planning authority, the actual physical manufacturing of the vehicles (trains by Alstom or Bombardier, buses by Scania or Volvo) and the operation of the services are often contracted out to international private operators such as MTR, Keolis, or VR Group. The brand itself remains a symbol of Stockholm's infrastructure and is owned by the Stockholm Region (Region Stockholm).
