The brand was originally created in 1901 by the Swiss chocolatier Philippe Suchard in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Its name is a portmanteau of the two primary ingredients: Milch (milk) and Kakao (cocoa).

While the brand has Swiss roots, the modern manufacturing landscape is diverse. A significant portion of Milka chocolate, especially the large 'MMMAX' bars like this toffee wholenut version, is produced in Lörrach, Germany, and Bludenz, Austria. The Alpine milk supply remains a core part of its marketing identity.

Mondelēz is an American global snacking powerhouse that managed the spin-off of the North American grocery business from Kraft Foods.
