Milka is one of Europe's most prominent chocolate brands, easily recognized by its distinctive lilac packaging and the 'Milka Cow' mascot set against the backdrop of the Alps. The brand was originally created in 1901 by the Swiss chocolatier Philippe Suchard in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Its name is a portmanteau of the two primary ingredients: Milch (milk) and Kakao (cocoa).

While the brand has Swiss roots, the modern manufacturing landscape is diverse. A significant portion of Milka chocolate, especially the large 'MMMAX' bars like this toffee wholenut version, is produced in Lörrach, Germany, and Bludenz, Austria. The Alpine milk supply remains a core part of its marketing identity.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major corporate mergers. After being part of Suchard and then Kraft Foods, Milka is now a flagship brand of Mondelēz International. Mondelēz is an American global snacking powerhouse that managed the spin-off of the North American grocery business from Kraft Foods. In the Czech Republic and other Central European markets, the products are distributed via local Mondelēz subsidiaries.
