ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) is an independent non-profit organization that manages the world's leading certification and labeling program for responsible aquaculture. The brand was founded in 2010 by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) and the IDH (Sustainable Trade Initiative) to manage global standards for responsible fish farming.
While the organization is headquartered in the Netherlands, products carrying the ASC logo are harvested and processed in many countries globally, depending on the species and farm location. The ASC label ensures that the seafood was produced in a way that minimizes environmental impact and maintains social responsibility. As an independent non-profit, the ultimate owner is the Aquaculture Stewardship Council foundation itself, which operates as a multi-stakeholder international governing body.
