Pop!_OS is a free and open-source Linux distribution developed by the American computer manufacturer System76. Launched in 2017, the operating system was originally based on Ubuntu and designed to provide a productive, out-of-the-box experience for developers, scientists, and makers. It is highly regarded for its auto-tiling window manager, Pop Shell, and its strong support for both NVIDIA and AMD graphics hardware.
While the software is developed primarily in the United States by System76's engineering team, as an open-source project, it receives contributions and is distributed globally. The brand remains a core part of System76's vertical integration strategy, as they ship the OS as the default software on their own line of laptops, desktops, and servers, which are assembled in their Colorado-based facility.
