Audi e-tron

originGermany
manufacturedPrimarily in Belgium, but also produced in China and Germany

The Audi e-tron represents the brand's first major foray into the mass-production electric vehicle market. First introduced as a concept in 2015 and entering production in 2018, the e-tron was specifically designed to bridge the gap between traditional luxury SUVs and the future of electric mobility. It features advanced technology such as virtual side mirrors and high-speed charging capabilities.

While the Audi brand is synonymous with German engineering, the production of the e-tron is a global effort. The primary assembly site for the e-tron and its successor, the Q8 e-tron, is the Audi Brussels plant in Belgium, which was certified as a carbon-neutral production facility. Additional production for regional markets occurs at the Changchun plant in China, reflecting the brand's global manufacturing footprint.

Today, Audi is a premium subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. The ownership structure has evolved through decades of German automotive history, eventually consolidating under Volkswagen's massive umbrella. This allows Audi to share research, development, and platform technologies across various brands including Porsche and Bentley while maintaining its independent brand identity and 'Vorsprung durch Technik' philosophy.
