Garden of Life was founded in 2000 by Jordan Rubin in Jupiter, Florida. The brand was established with a focus on providing premium, whole food-based nutrition that is both organic and non-GMO. Its mission originated from the founder's own health journey, leading to a product line that prioritizes "clean" ingredients, carbon neutrality, and traceable sourcing.
The product is manufactured primarily in the United States. Garden of Life emphasizes traceability, sourcing high-quality organic ingredients from various global locations that meet USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified standards. Their manufacturing processes often utilize cold-processing technology to preserve the nutritional integrity of the plant-based enzymes and probiotics found in their protein powders.
After years of independent growth, Garden of Life was acquired by the consumer healthcare company Atrium Innovations in 2005. A major shift occurred in 2017 when Nestlé Health Science, a subsidiary of the Swiss multinational Nestlé S.A., acquired Atrium Innovations for $2.3 billion. As of 2026, the brand remains an integral part of Nestlé’s health and wellness portfolio, managed under their global headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland.
