Schweppes, often phonetically spelled or referred to as 'Swebbes' in certain regions, is one of the world's oldest soft drink brands. It was founded by Jacob Schweppe, a German-born watchmaker and amateur scientist who developed a process to manufacture carbonated mineral water in Geneva in 1783. The brand later moved its headquarters to London, where it received a Royal Warrant and became the official caterer to the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Today, the manufacturing of Schweppes is highly localized through a complex network of bottling partners. Depending on the region, the product is bottled by various companies. The ownership of the brand is also fragmented globally; for instance, the Coca-Cola Company owns the brand in many territories including the UK and parts of Europe, while Keurig Dr Pepper owns it in the United States. This decentralized structure ensures that while the core recipes remains consistent, the physical production occurs close to the consumer in numerous facilities worldwide.
