Lätta is a well-known brand of margarine and spreads that originally gained popularity for its lower-fat alternatives to butter. The brand was first introduced in Sweden in 1984 before expanding into other European markets like Germany and the Netherlands. It has historically been associated with a fresh, youthful, and healthy lifestyle.
Ownership of the brand has transitioned significantly. Originally a product of the Anglo-Dutch conglomerate Unilever, Lätta was part of the global divestment of Unilever's spreads division in 2018. This division was sold to KKR and became Upfield. Upfield is currently the world-leading producer of plant-based spreads, overseeing a portfolio that includes other major brands like Flora and Becel. Manufacturing primarily takes place in specialized facilities in Germany to supply the Northern European market.
