Strongbow is a world-renowned dry cider brand with deep roots in the United Kingdom. Originally launched in 1960 by H.P. Bulmer, it was named after the Anglo-Norman knight Richard de Clare, whose nickname was 'Strongbow'. The brand has grown from a local British staple to become one of the best-selling ciders globally.
Historically part of the Bulmer family business, the brand came under the ultimate ownership of the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. following the acquisition of Scottish & Newcastle in 2008. While the heart of its production remains in Hereford, England—where billions of bittersweet apples are processed annually—Heineken produces and distributes Strongbow in multiple countries to satisfy local demand, often tailoring the recipe's sweetness or ABV level to specific regional markets.
